It is already the back to school season and I’ve been seeing a lot of very unique laptop sleeves. I got a new 13″ Macbook Pro lately and haven’t gotten a sleeve for it yet so I’m going to try making one with felt.
-I started by cutting out 2 pieces of felt (which I got at my local Joanns for 2.99 a yard):
28.5 inch x 14.5 inch and 7.5 inch x 14.5 inch
When I was in college, I loved to carry my laptop around with a small paper notebook and pen. I used my laptop sleeves for more than just storing the laptop. So I decided this particular sleeve needs to be a little larger than the macbook so I could carry around other stuff that won’t fit in my purse.
-I machine sewed the sides together so it creates an envelope. For the top flap, I also sewed the edges to create a more consistent look.
-The piece I had for the pocket came out to be a bit larger than I wanted. The pocket goes on the top so the flap could cover it. I had to trim about an inch off before sewing it on the front. It was pretty difficult to sew on the pocket so I would suggest sewing this on before sewing it into an envelope shape.
-Now all that’s left is to sew on the decorations. I didn’t have a button and thin elastic so I used a flower decoration and some suede cords.
My Macbook already has a hard cover so this sleeve is mainly for me to hold everything together such as earphones, charger, small books etc. I don’t have school to bring this to anymore but I’ll definitely be using this when I go on a trip in the coming months.
I’m considering making one for my iPad too haha
