I don’t feel very inspired to make anything today so let’s talk food! I went to Plan Check Kitchen and Bar during happy hour the other day after work and it was gooooood. So, yup, if that’s what you’re thinking, then it’s correct, you’re going to get hungry lol
I went to the Wilshire location and right in time for happy hour. Plan Check is a pub-style restaurant and there’s an area for sport lovers to relax over a game (as shown in the picture below). The seats were very creative and it was basically a wooden bench sticking right through the window so the opposite end was on the outside of the building.
It’s happy hour so of course we started off with beer and the baked crap dip. It was literally dipping toast into pieces of crab and sauce mixture.
We ordered the pastrami nosh, which is a sandwich that contains double smoked pastrami, melty swiss cheese, kimchi mustard, pickles, and a sunny fried egg. It was a perfect mixture for the 5-6pm dinner; it was filling but not extremely heavy. It reminded me of those breakfast sandwiches that I love.
We also ordered the smokey fried chicken which contains jidori chicken, smoked milk gravy, yam preserves, and spicy pickled okra. This was a pretty unique fried chicken. The dish had it’s own special sauce that created a different flavor; it was possibly the yam but I couldn’t quite put a word to it.
Overall, 2 dishes and an appetizer was more than enough for 2 people. You should go check it out sometimes if you’re in the area. It’s really a good place to relax after a days work in downtown LA.
